Kent Lions clubs cooperate to help fund defibrillator

Two Kent Lions clubs recently got together to help a village organisation install a

defi brillator for use by the community.

Hodsoll Street and Ridley Village Hall is on the boundary of the areas of two Lions clubs

- Darenth Valley and Swanley & North Downs. Various fund-raising schemes - including a

popular monthly ‘Big Breakfast’ - are run by the Village Hall Committee to support the

hall’s maintenance and improvement.

Earlier in the year (at a ‘Big Breakfast’) Swanley Lions found out that the Committee

were keen to install a defi brillator for the village to be available 24/7 in a refurbished

phone box outside the hall. But they were £500 short of their target.

As the hall’s catchment includes both clubs’ areas, Swanley approached Darenth Valley

Lions with the proposal - “let’s go 50/50 on the balance”. DV readily agreed.

So on Saturday 7 April Swanley President Lion Steve Gray presented £500 on behalf of

the two clubs to Village Hall Chairman Ian Maxwell - beside the phone box of course!

Swanley and North Downs Lions have also funded three defi brillators in Swanley and

Wrotham.
